Weekend Rain Doesn’t Cloud Sunny Day For Indiana’s Babies
March of Dimes welcomes heroes to brave the weather to "Walk for Someone they Love" at WalkAmerica and urge those still holding donations to turn them in.
(Indianapolis, IN, April 28, 2006)—This weekend’s weather may put a damper on many spring activities but one community event proveds that no matter what the weather this weekend provided sunny days for babies. The March of Dimes wants to remind you that WalkAmerica will proceed this weekend despite the soggy forecast and is asking those who may not have been able to get out to the Walk to turn-in the donations they collected as soon as possible.
“We will have a wonderful event,” says Tim Arndt, March of Dimes Indiana Chapter “Our volunteers have been working on this event since last year. Together, we may get wet and muddy but we will smile through the weather because we know that what we do in the rain on walk day will help make a shining future for our children. I expect the weather might prevent some from attending the event, however. We are asking people who have donations to turn-in to drop them by the March of Dimes division office nearest to them next week. We will have the WalkAmerica T-shirts and sweatshirts and other prizes at the office for those heroes who earned them.”
WalkAmerica is a 36-year American tradition that takes place each spring. WalkAmerica provides the majority of the critical funds needed to help the March of Dimes rescue babies from birth defects and death before age one.
The March of Dimes is the voluntary health organization whose mission is to help save babies’ lives by preventing prematurity, birth defects and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of community services, education, advocacy, and scientific research that saves babies and in 2003 launched a national campaign to address the growing problem of premature birth.
