Janet Blossom Helps Lead March of Dimes Efforts in Sagamore Division and Lafayette Area
06-May-06
Janet Blossom, Team Leader at Kathryn Weil Center for Education for Greater Lafayette Health Services.

Janet currently serves on the Public Affairs Committee at the state level and assists the local divison office with programming efforts.

"About 5 years ago one of my adult daughters who is also a nurse lost a beautiful 8 day old baby boy to a very rare genetic syndrome," says Janet.  "It is so rare that it is not a part of routine testing and very unexpected.  Later when I was asked to become a volunteer for March of Dimes I recognized the golden opportunity to actively assist an organization that makes a difference in the area of prevention and treatment for premature birth and the many other problems little ones and families encounter," she said.

Janet graduated from Methodist Hospital Indianapolis School in 1965 and Purdue University 1981 with a BSN degree.  She is a Board Certified in Nursing Professional Development through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She has been involved in health policy related to Nursing for many years working as a Registered Nurse for 39 of the 41 years since graduation.

She is currently celebrating 30 years of Service at Greater Lafayette Health Services Hospitals in Lafayette.  Her current position is Team Leader at Kathryn Weil Center for Education, the department that provides Education and Training for staff and the public which has approximately 20,000 educational interactions per year.

Says Janet, "Our hospitals have very busy Obstetics, Neonatal and Pediatrics Units. Our department handles the Childbirth Classes, an area for a Lactation Nurse to consult with out-patients, infant CPR for families and several educational family & staff programs and a long history of involvment with the March of Dimes."

The Indiana Chapter thanks Janet for her continued leadership on the state and local levels in our fight to save babies' lives.  For more information on programs and activities of the March of Dimes in the Sagamore Division of the Indiana Chapter, call 765-448-6641 or email Ann Skadberg, Sagamore Division Director at askadberg@marchofdimes.com.
