| Lisa Crane is a volunteer leader for the March of Dimes because she sees the mission of the March of Dimes in action where she works.
Crane has been a volunteer in the central division for 5 years, serving on the Program Services Committee.
Crane has been a nurse for 24 years, beginning her career in the Peace Corps in Ecuador from 1982-1984. Through the years she has worked in psychiatric nursing, nursing education, and in transitional care settings. For the past 13 years, she has conentrated her work in maternal-child health, specifically in patient education. Crane currently is at Clarian Health Partners as coordinator of inpatient and outpatient childbirth education for the downtown campus.
Crane's work as a volunteer with March of Dimes closely relates to her professional role. "Every day, I work in the development and support of programs that touch families who are expecting babies," says Crane. "Most of these families will have healthy babies, and our education with them will deal with the joys and challenges of pregnancy and early parenthood. Some of these mothers are facing complications of pregnancy, and our education focuses on a particular pathology, either in Mom or baby or both," she says.
Crane continues, "Of course, the goal of every nurse and every mother is a healthy baby and a safe delivery. It is for every woman to reach that goal that I volunteer with the March of Dimes. No other organization in the US is doing more to educate and support both families and professionals about healthy birth."
