2. Dunebrook – Prenatal Substance Use Prevention Program
A second year of March of Dimes funding will allow the Prenatal Substance Use Prevention Program at Dunebrook to continue to employ additional staff, which will allow the program to increase the number of pregnant women in LaPorte County receiving substance cessation counseling, education and referrals. 151 will receive counseling and another 600 will receive information on the hazards of prenatal substance use.
3. Edinburgh/Trafalgar Family Health Centers, Inc.- Prenatal Care Program
Project funding will partially support the continuation of the prenatal care program (initiated in 2005) which was designed to create access to affordable, high-quality prenatal care for uninsured and underinsured pregnant women and encourage early entry into the perinatal care cycle. The goal is to reach approximately 100 Hispanic pregnant women.
4. Greene County Home Healthcare Agency – Caring Hearts Program
A second year of March of Dimes funding will allow the Caring Hearts Prenatal Care Coordination program to continue to provide services to 50-60 low-income pregnant women in Greene County. Services include risk assessment, counseling on STDs and birth control, assistance to access early prenatal care, prenatal education, and in-home visitation to monitor prenatal and postpartum women and infants.
5. Maple City Healthcare Center – Centering Pregnancy and Parenting Group Care Project
In the third year of March of Dimes support for the Centering Pregnancy project, the Maple City Health Care Center will continue to provide the Centering pregnancy group care project to 150 predominantly Hispanic women in Goshen and expand with 2 to 4 additional group sessions in the first 3 months postpartum. The postpartum sessions will focus on parenting and newborn health issues, postpartum depression, infection prevention, nutrition, and contraception. The model combines physical assessment with education and psychosocial support using facilitative teaching and group process.
6. Memorial Hospital of South Bend – Sweet Babies Without Sugar
This March of Dimes grant will allow the hospital to initiate a program to provide a culturally and linguistically appropriate education and case management program for minority and limited-English-proficient gestational diabetics to reduce the rate of maternal and infant complications due to diabetes. The program expects to serve approximately 50 Latinas and other minorities.
7. NorthShore HealthCenters – Prenatal Care Coordination
Support from the March of Dimes will allow the health center to provide African American and Hispanic pregnant women with consistent education and support through early entry into prenatal care. Expected outcomes include a reduction in the incidence of low birth weight babies, infant mortality, infant respiratory complications, and SIDS.
8. Union Hospital Maternal Health Clinic – Centering Pregnancy Approach to Prenatal Care
Funding from the March of Dimes will allow the clinic to expand their Centering Pregnancy program and incentive program for 120 high risk expectant families.
9. Women’s Care Center – Personalized Prenatal Options – LaPorte County
March of Dimes funding will allow the center to expand their program which develops a personalized, flexible plan for high risk pregnant women to access prenatal care and support beginning when they test positive for pregnancy in the first trimester at the center. Services to be provided include free first prenatal medical visits, one-on-one goal counseling, group prenatal classes and group smoking cessation classes. The program expects to serve 200 additional women, of which the majority is African American.
