Prematurity Information in Kansas
Many people know a baby who was born prematurely. However, not everyone is aware of the serious problems associated with premature birth. Prematurity is the leading cause of death among newborn babies. Among those children who survive their early birth, 100,000 of them develop health problems each year because of their prematurity. In 2001, more than 476,000 babies were born prematurely in the United States. That's roughly comparable to the entire population of Kansas City, Missouri.
