Folic Acid Campaign in Kansas

Since 1998, the Greater Kansas Chapter has focused intense efforts on educating women and health professionals about the importance of taking folic acid to prevent birth defects of the brain and spinal cord (also called neural tube defects).   If all women of childbearing age took 400 micrograms of folic acid daily before and during early pregnancy, the incidence of neural tube birth defects could be reduced by up to 70 percent.

What Is Folic Acid and Why Does Your Baby Need It?
Folic acid is a naturally occurring B vitamin that helps a baby's neural tube - the part of a developing baby that becomes the brain and spinal cord - develop properly.

Informational brochures about folic acid are available from the March of Dimes office near you, by calling (816) 561-0175, or at our National Website.

Donating is easy online, by phone or mail / fax.
