Kentucky Perinatal Association HPEP Program
In the spring of 2005, the Greater Kentucky Chapter awarded the Kentucky Perinatal Association a community grant.  The KPA was able to create an online educational program with these funds.  They did this in partnership with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services and the Department of Public Health, Adult and Child Health Improvement.  The program is an internet-based CME activity that will address the scope of preterm birth as a public health problem, the pathways to preterm birth, and prevention strategies (tertiary, secondary and primary prevention measures).  There is also an online nursing educational activity of the same topic, sponsored by the same organizations.

The rate of preterm births continues to increase statewide and nationwide. This increasing trend in preterm birth will prevent the nation from achieving the Healthy People 2010 objective of reducing preterm birth rate to 7.6%. There are several pathways to preterm deliveries and based on these risks factors, there are prevention strategies proven to be helpful.
