March of Dimes Awarded $25,000 Grant to KPA for Prematurity Programs
The March of Dimes Greater Kentucky Chapter awarded a $25,000 grant to the Kentucky Perinatal Association (KPA) to fund professional development for health care practitioners across the state of Kentucky.  KPA hosted its Annual Meeting: “Summit on Prematurity” in early June at the Lake Cumberland Resort in Jamestown, Kentucky. 

The first part of the conference focused on pregnancy issues with scheduled topics including high-risk pregnancy management, maternal dental health, and optimal prenatal care.  The second part of the conference focused on the care of premature neonates and their mothers with topics including nutrition for preterm infants, developmental issues in the NICU, follow-up care for preterm babies, and the effects of the HANDS home visitation program.

March of Dimes Honorary Prematurity Campaign Chair J. Steve Davis, MD Director of the Division of Adult & Child Health at the Department for Public Health discussed prematurity in the Commonwealth of Kentucky –What are we doing?  Where are we going? 

March of Dimes Senior Research Associate Karla Damus, PhD, MSPH, RN delivered the Patricia Nicol Honorary Lectureship on the March of Dimes Prematurity Campaign.
