March of Dimes Receives $37,000 from Dulles Greenway's 'Drive for Charity'
28-Jul-06
The March of Dimes National Capital Area Chapter has received $37,000 from the Dulles Greenway’s first Drive for Charity, which was held May 31.  During Drive for Charity, the Dulles Greenway donated that day’s net proceeds from tolls to charity.

“These funds will allow us to help our most at-risk families in Loudoun County,” says Dona Dei, program services director for the March of Dimes National Capital Area Chapter.

Each year the March of Dimes provides community service grants to local groups to support innovative maternal and child health programs.  In 2006, the local March of Dimes chapter awarded nearly $94,000 in grants to several organizations, including InMed/MotherNet Loudoun, the Northern Virginia Perinatal Council and Sudden Infant Death Services of the Mid-Atlantic.

Toll Road Investors Partnership II, L.P., the owner of the Dulles Greenway, intends to make Drive for Charity an annual event and has committed toll proceeds to the March of Dimes and four other charities for three years.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.  Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies and in 2003 launched a national campaign to address the increasing rate of premature birth.  For more information, visit the March of Dimes Web site at marchofdimes.com/metrodc or its Spanish-language Web site at nacersano.org.
