TITLE: Director of Major Gifts

REPORTS TO: Ohio State Director

LOCATION: Columbus, OH

REASON FOR OPENING: New Position

POSITION PURPOSE:
To increase revenue by creating a new fundraising resource, implement a major gifts program in the chapter, focusing on annual giving, special giving and planned giving.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implement chapter major gifts annual giving, special giving and planned giving programs, collaborating with the national office. This includes training, coaching and mentoring for major gifts volunteer leadership and staff; working with chapter staff and volunteers to identify, research and prioritize major gift prospects; creating and maintaining timetable for major gift solicitations; and coordinating cultivation and solicitations with participation as appropriate.
  • Implement acknowledgement and donor recognition programs, coordinating activities with national office.
  • Coordinate and assist with estate planning seminars, archive events and other planned giving functions; follow-up leads generated by planned giving program activities; cultivate, solicit and steward planned giving prospects and donors.
  • Develop and maintain gift monitoring, recordkeeping, reporting and other administrative devices to support and monitor program status and progress.
  • Participate in regional and national activities.
  • Serve on committees.
  • Attend/present seminars, lectures and other functions related to major gifts fundraising.
  • Work with program staff and volunteers to ensure that every event contains program content to enhance the knowledge of the audience and general public regarding the March of dimes mission, programs, special services and benefits for mothers and babies.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years experience required.
  • Fundraising management, track record of achieving results working with staff, volunteers, prospects and donors.
  • Interpersonal skills, ability to work well and produce targeted results with minimum supervision, strong organizational skills, strong communication, and ability to effectively handle multiple tasks achieving desired results in a timely manner.
