March of Dimes Announces 2013 Heroines in Technology Co-chairs

    Arlington, Va., June 26, 2013 —

The March of Dimes and AFCEA NOVA  today announced Sabret Flocos and Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch as the co-chairs for the 13th Annual Heroines in Technology Awards Gala. The event will honor the significant contributions of women in the technology industry who exemplify leadership in volunteer community service in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia.

Flocos is a founding partner of FOX Architects and currently serves on the March of Dimes National Capital Area Board of Directors. Cowen-Hirsch is the senior vice president of government strategy & policy for Inmarsat Global Services, Inc.

“Heroines in Technology has honored 72 women for their volunteerism since the event was established in 2001,” said Sabret Flocos, Heroines in Technology co-chair. “Many of these women don’t recognize the impact they are making on their community, and this event offers the opportunity to highlight their valuable efforts.”

Nominations are open to women in all segments of the technology community including government, nonprofit and commercial organizations. The deadline to submit a nominee is July 12, 2013. Finalists will be recognized and winners will be announced at the black-tie gala on November 8, 2013, at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner.

“I am excited to co-chair this event along with Sabret. I look forward to meeting this year’s finalists and paying tribute to these inspiring women who go above and beyond to improve our community,” noted Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, Heroines in Technology co-chair and chair of AFCEA’s Women in NOVA.

Cowen-Hirsch continued, “AFCEA’s Women in NOVA strongly supports the recognition of these Heroines and the March of Dimes mission, which is closely aligned with furthering AFCEA NOVA’s commitment to STEM and the next generation of leaders in technology.”

Event sponsors include Harris Corporation, IBM, AFCEA International, Sapient, DC Magazine and Federal News Radio.
