Family Team Corner Welcome to the Family Team Corner of the MA March of Dimes website! This corner has been created for families, especially those who participate as a Family Team in our March for Babies event, in order to provide excellent information about our mission, as well as ways you can be involved in all that happens in Massachusetts! Information will be updated throughout the year, so please check back often! Our goal is to help you get plugged in to our organization in a meaningful way, and to remain connected throughout the year – not just during walk season! If you have any questions or suggestions, don’t hesitate to contact Family Team Specialist, Alison Graham AGGraham@marchofdimes.com.

November
1) Purchase tickets to attend the Chefs for Healthy Babies event in Springfield (Nov. 2, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame)
2) National Prematurity Awareness Month “Pizza for Preemies” Community Awareness Initiative The “Pizza for Preemies” initiative is meant to be a fun, family-centered activity run by Family Team participants in order to raise public awareness (and some“dough” #) for the March of Dimes in their community during the month of November. Family teams across the state are asked to contact a local pizza chain (Papa Ginos, for example) and host a “Pizza for Preemies” night. Some local pizza places allow you to reserve a night and they donate a portion of the proceeds from that evening to your choice of charity. It is the responsibility of individual teams (or a few teams could sponsor a local pizza joint together!) to contact the local pizza establishment, schedule a date sometime during the month of November (National Prematurity Awareness month), advertise the event within your community (post flyers on bulletin boards, at the grocery store, at the library, and any other place people are found!). Family Team participants who choose to participate in the “Pizza for Preemies” event will organize the event independently. The local March of Dimes office can supply promotional materials upon request (cutouts to sell or decorate with, banners, pamphlets, etc) but the March of Dimes will not incur any costs associated with the event (printing your own flyers, buying pizza, etc). A suggestion to raise awareness, and draw a local connection, is to create a poster of your family’s story to post that evening or to put a press release in your local paper. The goal, in addition to having fun, is to RAISE AWARENSS of the Mission of March of Dimes during National Prematurity Awareness Month. Thank you for considering this volunteer opportunity. Please contact Family Team Specialist, Alison Graham, with any inquiries. AGGraham@marchofdimes.com.
3) Contact your local paper and tell them about National Prematurity Awareness Month. Ask them to feature the March of Dimes in a story, or to print a press release. Please contact the Massachusetts March of Dimes office for a standard press release copy, if you are interested!
