MEAD-JOHNSON & MARCH OF DIMES PARTNER FOR GRAND ROUNDS ON CAPE COD (MARCH OF DIMES, NATIONALLY KNOWN SPEAKER TALKS ABOUT REDUCING THE INCIDIENCE OF PRE-TERM BIRTH)
(WESTBORO, MA - April, 2007) – Health Professionals from across Cape Cod came together on March 29th for a Grand Rounds to learn the latest advances in preventing premature birth. The presentation was made by nationally known speaker, Karla Damus, RN, MSPH, PhD and Senior Research Associate for the March of Dimes and was supported by Mead-Johnson Nutritional.
Dr. Leif Norenberg, at Briarpatch Pediatrics, coordinated the event through the generosity of Bill Menard of Mead-Johnson Nutritionals. The Grand Rounds was attended by more than 55 doctors and nurses from area health care agencies including Cape Cod and Falmouth Hospitals. The Grand Rounds brought high quality, up-to-date and clinically useful information to those health professionals most in need of the information. An important objective of each session is to link the participants to other resources that the March of Dimes and Mead-Johnson have and to facilitate the continuing education and important work of those who attend.
The demand for the Grand Rounds Program has consistently grown over the past four years and its success has led to an expansion of the Johnson and Johnson Pediatric Institute (JJPI) and March of Dimes Partnership. With funding from JJPI, the March of Dimes has offered more than 20,000 frontline health professionals in 43 states the opportunity to learn from expert speakers such as Dr. Damus about topics such as the latest evidence-based advances in preventing as well as managing preterm labor and birth.
“Dr. Damus' review of trends, and update on the latest in prematurity research were thought provoking,” stated Norenberg. “Many unknowns still exist about pre-term birth, but it is reassuring to know that the March of Dimes is doing everything in its power to gain a better understanding of these current mysteries,” he added.
