2008 Charitable Leadership Award Honoree
The Massachusetts Chapter of the March of Dimes is pleased to announce that June and Brian Carroll will be the 2008 recipient of the Charitable Leadership Award.  The award will be given at the Worcester Signature Chefs Event on Monday October 20th at Union Station.   To attend the event click here now.

As residents of Worcester, Massachusetts, Brian Carroll and his wife, June, are not only dedicated to their children but also to the Central Massachusetts community in which they live, and particularly the UMass Memorial Hospital Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Worcester. June spends countless hours volunteering at the unit, supporting parents and families coping with the emotional upheaval and worry of having an at-risk newborn. Brian runs numerous marathons and takes part in other events to raise funds for the unit.

Why such a commitment to the NICU? In July 1999, June and Brian’s son, Brendan, was born prematurely weighing less than 2 lbs.  He struggled for his first breaths, and no one was certain that he would survive. Over the next several months, both June and Brian spent many hours at the hospital, many times overnight. Thanks to the dedicated physicians and nurses at the NICU, after five months and many surgeries, Brendan was finally sent home. Today, Brendan is a fun loving and active nine-year old.

Brian and June were so appreciative of the care the NICU provided Brendan that they both wanted to give something back. In 2002, Brian formed the Brendan’s Buddies team to run in the Boston Marathon to raise funds. Since then he has run over 30 marathons around the country. In recent years, Brian has taken his fundraising to a whole new level, participating in Ironman Challenges both here and in Europe.

While June is busy taking care of their three children, she continues to spend a significant amount of her time volunteering at the NICU, providing support to families being served by the unit and working on fundraising events, most recently serving as chair of a “Tee Up for Tots” annual golf tournament.

Professionally, Brian is a successful entrepreneur and businessman. He is President and Chief Executive Officer of Carroll Enterprises, Inc. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College in 1984 and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business in 1994. Meanwhile, June is a graduate of Clark University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Art.
