Heroines in Technology honors women who work in or support the technology industry for their dedication to community service.

The nominations deadline for the AFCEA International Government Heroine Category has been extended to September 15, 2010.

Winners announced: November 12, 2010


Nominations Criteria:

• Women must work in or support the technology field and exemplify outstanding volunteer service above and beyond their professional responsibilities.
• All nominees must live and work in Northern Virginia, Maryland or Washington, D.C.
• Nominees must demonstrate achievement in spreading the mission and enhancing the success of the volunteer organizations with which they are involved.
• All nominees will be contacted and told if they have been selected as a finalist or not.
• If selected as a finalist, nominee must be available for the videotaped interview (three available dates in late September/early October). Video will be presented at the Awards Gala.
• If selected as a finalist, nominee must be available to attend the Awards Gala on Friday, November 12, 2010.
• Nominees must agree to allow their name and/or likeness to be used to advertise and promote the event.


Heroines will be selected based upon their leadership, impact, innovation and inspiration with the organizations in which they are involved. Nominations are due by Friday, August 20, 2010. All items marked with an * must be completed.

Rising Heroine: Nominee has exemplified volunteerism in the community and has made a significant impact during her career of less than 10 years.

Individual Heroine: During her career, nominee has exemplified volunteerism in the community beyond participation within her company’s community outreach.

NVTC Corporate Heroine: Nominee must be an Owner, CEO or President who leverages her position and company to actively encourage and support employees to volunteer in the community.

AFCEA International Government Heroine: Nominee must be employed by the Federal, State or Local Government. She must exhibit extraordinary volunteerism and a passion for helping others in endeavors over and above the mandates of her government role.
