| The March of Dimes Fashion Extravaganza is an event with a rich and legendary history in Detroit’s African American community marking this year’s 52nd anniversary. This tradition will continue at the Dearborn Hyatt Regency Hotel on Sunday, February 27th at 1:00 p.m. The fashion show and luncheon features some of metro Detroit’s most talented fashion designers and models.
The late Dr. Violet T. Lewis, founder of Detroit’s Lewis College of Business, launched the Fashion Extravaganza event over 50 years ago with the support of a committee that included some of Detroit’s leading African American women. Those volunteers saw a need in their community to help children of that era who were battling the crippling effects of polio.
Today, the Fashion Extravaganza is not only one of metro Detroit’s premier fashion shows, it is also one of the March of Dimes longest running fundraising events. Over $1 million dollars has been raised in support of the March of Dimes mission to save babies. For ticket and additional information please contact Violet Ponders at (313) 862-6300 ext. 249.
