| News/Talk 760 WJR presents 26th Annual ArvinMeritor Celebrity Golf Classic to benefit the March of Dimes will be held on Thursday, August 22nd. The event will be at the Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion and start at 8:30 a.m. This year's event will feature a golf tournament; putting contest; silent and live auction packages featuring sports memorabilia, spa, home and recreational packages; and a buffet dinner with program. Media is invited to attend.
Celebrity guests for this year include Reggie Holmes, Eddie Murray, Freddie Scott and Rich Strenger of the Detroit Lions, Ken Kal of the Detroit Red Wings, John B. Ferguson of the San Jose Sharks, and Phil Myre of the Florida Panthers among others. Over the past 26 years, featured celebrities have included Arnold Palmer, Gordie Howe, Al Kaline, Ted Lindsay, Bo Schembechler, Bill Laimbeer, Tom Izzo, Ken Holland and Joe Dumars.
Since 1981, with the support of all our celebrities, the tournament has raised more than $3 million to benefit the March of Dimes and its research and programs to fight premature birth. Premature birth is a growing crisis that affects half a million babies each year. It is the leading cause of newborn death and a major cause of lifelong disabilities.
Tickets to participate in the tournament are sold out, but tickets to attend the putting contest and dinner are still available. For more information, contact Katie Koch at 248-359-1557.
The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies and in 2003 launched a campaign to address the increasing rate of premature birth.
