Macomb Dinner Kick-Off Introduces Awardees

The kick-off to the 23rd annual March of Dimes Alexander Macomb Citizens of the Year awards dinner is scheduled for Thursday, June 8 at 6:30 at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. The event will be hosted by President and CEO of Mount Clemens General Hospital Robert Milewski and will officially introduce this year’s honorees. Media are invited to attend.

Every year, the committee selects model citizens from Macomb County to honor based on their involvement in the community and their dedication to serving others. This year’s honorees include Christine Bonkowski, Macomb Community College Trustee and wife of the late Warren Mayor Ronald Bonkowski; Frank Beckmann, News/Talk 760 WJR personality and March of Dimes board member; and the Stolaruk family, owners of Concorde Inns and involved in major Hurricane Katrina fundraising efforts.

June 8th is the kick-off for the awards dinner, which will be held Wednesday, October 11th at 6 pm at the Fernhill Golf and Country Club in Clinton Township. Tickets for that evening are $125 each. Advance tickets are recommended. For more information, contact Trista Johnson at 248-359-1564.

The chairpeople include Macomb County Sheriff Mark A. Hackel; the Honorable Nancy White, chair of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners; and Mike Aggeler, President of John’s Lumber.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies and in 2003 launched a campaign to address the increasing rate of premature birth.
