NFL Hall of Famer Jim Kelly to receive honors at 2003 Dodge National Athletic Awards benefiting March of Dimes
15-Jan-03
NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, who starred for many years with the Buffalo Bills, will receive honors at the 15th annual Dodge National Athletic Awards benefiting the March of Dimes.  The event will take place at the Fox Theatre in downtown Detroit on Tuesday. March 11.

Darryl Jackson, Vice President, Dodge Marketing, made the announcement at a press conference that took place at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

A strong-armed passer with a "linebacker's mentality," Kelly led the Bills to four Super Bowl appearances. His decisiveness and command of the "no-huddle" offense confounded opposing defenses. He led the NFL in passing in 1990 and the AFC again in 1991.

In 11 seasons in Buffalo, Kelly led the Bills to the playoffs eight times. Typically, the better the opponent, the better Jim would play.  In 17 playoff game appearances, including four consecutive Super Bowls, he passed for 3,863 yards and 21 touchdowns.

James Brown of Fox Sports returns for his third straight year as master of ceremonies.  He brings great warmth and knowledge of sports to the role.

Announcements of other awardees will be announced shortly.  Among those awards: the Detroit Athletic Club Michigan High School Athlete of the Year Award and the Sporting News Radio Network Socrates Award, which goes to an outstanding college scholar-athlete.

Tickets to the Dodge National Athletic Awards are $200.  Proceeds help the March of Dimes  save babies through programs of research, community service, advocacy and education.

Besides Dodge, sponsors of the National Athletic Awards include Fox Sports Net, the Detroit Athletic Club, the Sporting News Radio Network, Metro Cars, FOX-2, Kmart and WJR.
