| (The March of Dimes & WalkAmerica has been a family tradition for the Mt. Clemens based Philip F. Greco Title Company for over twenty years. This year, the company’s efforts will be dedicated to the late Donna Greco Issa who passed away March 27, 2003.
The March of Dimes, an organization committed to saving babies, was a passion for Greco Issa for one simple reason: she had a thing for babies, especially healthy ones. This dedication was recognized in 2002 when she was named Volunteer of the Year. Greco Issa originally got involved with the March of Dimes by following in her late father Philip F. Greco’s footsteps. He was named March of Dimes 1986 Man of the Year for his efforts and commitment. In addition, the Greco family was awarded the March of Dimes Family of the Year in 2000.
Their commitment to the March of Dimes is displayed in their company’s efforts as well. The Philip F. Greco building is plastered with posters, brochures and additional information about the March of Dimes & its annual fundraiser, WalkAmerica. Greco Title is consistently a top team at the Metro Beach WalkAmerica site. Internally, Donna encouraged employees to participate in the event and helped educate them on healthy pre-natal care. Externally, Greco Title has played a major role by encouraging many area companies to support the March of Dimes through WalkAmerica and other fundraising events. The company also helps sponsor the Metro Beach WalkAmerica site and this year will dedicate its checkpoint in memory of Donna.
WalkAmerica is an eight-mile walk to save babies and will take place rain or shine in Metro Beach on Sunday, April 27. Proceeds raised by WalkAmerica help the March of Dimes save babies through programs of research, community service, advocacy and education. The Honorary Chairperson of this year’s WalkAmerica in Metro Beach is Macomb County Sheriff Mark A. Hackel. National WalkAmerica sponsors are Cigna, Kmart, Allied northAmerican, Butler GUM, Discovery Health Channel and Famous Footwear. Comcast is a statewide sponsor of WalkAmerica in Michigan. WalkAmerica site sponsors in Metro Beach are Philip F. Greco Title Company, Kroger Company of Michigan, Fifth Third Bank, Comcast, St. John Health, Mount Clemens General Hospital, Richmond Rotary and Gillette.
The March of Dimes mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Currently, the March of Dimes has entered a new Prematurity campaign. This five-year, $75 million dollar research, awareness and education campaign is aimed to help families have healthier babies.
People interested in joining the above sponsors and many others in the fight against prematurity can do so by calling 1-800-BIG WALK or register online at www.marchofdimes.com.
