In 1938 the March of Dimes was founded to find a cure for polio. In 1955 a significant milestone took place in Michigan: the discovery of the Salk vaccine, which all but eliminated polio, was announced at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

• Michigan Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies (HMHB)

Michigan Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies (HMHB) is a statewide coalition for organizations and individuals to address the high infant mortality rate and maternal/child health issues in our state. The Coalition is organized into four regions (U.P., northern, eastern, and western) and also meets on a statewide basis to develop strategies and formulate plans for achieving our goals.
