Folic Acid






Michigan's Folic Acid Campaign

Since 1998 the March of Dimes has been leading a national education campaign about folic acid and its role in preventing birth defects. In Michigan, folic acid awareness efforts have focused on educating women and health professionals about the importance of folic acid in reducing certain birth defects.

Survey Finds Michigan Lags Nation In Folic Acid Awareness
According to a 2001 study conducted for the March of Dimes by the Gallup Organization, 59% of people in Michigan are aware of folic acid, compared to 63% nationally.




Folic Acid Council
The Folic Acid Council was established in 1999 to increase the number of Michigan women who are aware of folic acid and take a vitamin supplement to reach the recommended 400 micrograms of folic acid each day.

University of Michigan Health Systems M-Fit Health Promotion Division developed the “Great Expectations with Folic Acid” campaign
