11-Mar-08
The Golden Mile Executive Breakfast is the official start of March for Babies - formally known as WalkAmerica. This annual event is where corporate leaders from the Metro Detroit area join in a symbolic half-mile walk to kick-off March for Babies in 2008.  The United Auto Workers, Chrysler, Ford Motor Company, and General Motors are teaming up once again with the March of Dimes, along with our State March for Babies Chairs.  The March of Dimes National Ambassador, Catharine Aboulhouda, was on hand with her mother Susan.  The Golden Mile Executive Breakfast was held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in the Main Dining Room of the Detroit Athletic Club beginning with a continental breakfast at 8:45 a.m.  Paul W. Smith, News/Talk 760 WJR was the emcee.  The Detroit Athletic Club’s Michigan High School Athlete Nominees of the Year were announced during the program and these young adults will be celebrated at the Dodge National Athletic Awards on May 12th.  News/Talk 760 WJR broadcast the Paul W. Smith show live from the lobby that morning.  The March for Babies 2008 honorary state chairs in attendance were General Holiefield – UAW Chrysler, Bob King – UAW Ford, Cal Rapson – UAW General Motors, John Franciosi – Chrysler, Joe Hinrichs – Ford Motor Company, and Diana Tremblay – General Motors.  UAW President Ron Gettelfinger attended again this year and spoke in support of the March of Dimes.  Also, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano and Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel spoke at the program. Some of our corporate sponsors attending and speaking at the Golden Mile are Dan Schrock – Farmers Insurance, Sandro DiNello – Flagstar Bank and Katelyn Jackson – Coca Cola Enterprises and our national sponsors Kmart and FedEx are sending representatives to also speak in support of the March of Dimes at the Golden Mile.
