15 million babies are born too soon around the world – a half million of them right here in the United States. On World Prematurity Day this November 17, spread awareness of the problems of premature birth by sharing your story, spreading hope and saving lives.
Say thank you to the doctors, nurses and other health care professionals in Minnesota who care for our babies. Create a gift basket for your local hospital with treats and materials from the March of Dimes on our Day of Gratitude. Visit the hospital on November 17, present your basket and say thank you!
If you’re visiting a hospital with a newborn intensive care unit…
· Include a March of Dimes product catalog with great education materials for patients, nurses and doctors.
· Include a NICU Family Support Keepsake Journal. This booklet provides a place for parents to write about their new baby, including milestones, celebrations and difficult days.
· Include some hand-made preemie hats (March of Dimes has hats to distribute).
· March for Babies save the date. Encourage the NICU to form a team and support March of Dimes research, education and advocacy.
If you’re visiting a hospital with a regular labor and delivery unit…
· Include a March of Dimes product catalog with great education materials for patients, nurses and doctors.
· Include a Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait flyer to encourage doctors and nurses to talk to their patients about why the last weeks of pregnancy count.
· March for Babies save the date. Encourage the hospital staff to form a team support March of Dimes research, education and advocacy.
What else should go in your basket? Goodies like chocolates, cookies and candy are always welcome. Include a special thank you from your family. March of Dimes materials are available by calling your local March of Dimes office, contacting the March of Dimes Chapter office at 952-835-3033 or our Family Teams Specialist Caitlin Haynes at chaynes@marchofdimes.com.
