Mission Programs 2009 Mission Investment in Mississippi
2009 Mississippi Chapter Community Grants. The March of Dimes MS Chapter will have $44,000 available for grants/awards in 2009. (This has changed due to reduction in Grant Line) of the proposals received, the program services committee is recommending 5 projects for funding (39178.15). In addition, the program services committee would like to use the remaining $4821.85 to fund a Lunch and Learn conference for doctors and other health professionals to promote the importance of full-term pregnancy.
Cary Christian Center Year 2 of funding Cary, MS Precious Cargo : Workshops will be offered 4 times a year for any expectant mother in her 1st & 2nd trimester living in served counties. With the workshops to lower birth defects and premature births along with support will directly impact the health of babies. Approximately 40 unduplicated individuals will be served by this project during the grant year. $3047. Regional Approval
Aaron E. Henry Community Health Center Year 2 of funding Clarksdale, MS The organization will provide continuation of enhanced Centering Pregnancy Model of group prenatal care. The goal is to improve self-care and encourage healthy behavior changes in the participants. $10,000 Regional Approval
Memorial Hospital at Gulfport Foundation Single Year Request Gulfport, MS Funding to establish the March of Dimes Perinatal Education Resource Center. This resource center will provide education materials for patients, staff, physicians and other caregivers. In addition, educational materials will be requested in Spanish to accommodate the growing Hispanic population. Approximately 750 individuals will be served in this project. $4631.15 Regional Approval
University of MS Medical Center- Department of Pediatrics Single Year Request Jackson, MS Resource Mother: The project will provide comprehensive primary care services in the interpregnancy period (from the delivery of a newborn to the conception of the woman’s next pregnancy) to high-risk African American women in Hinds County who have delivered a very Low Birth Weight (VLBW) infant at University of Mississippi Medical Center. $20,000 Regional Approval.
University o MS Medical Center- Division of Continuing Education 2 Year Request Jackson, MS Pearls of Care for Women and Babies Conference: This conference has been designed to provide health professionals who serve women and babies with knowledge to promote better health care to their patients. The format will include general sessions as well as concurrent tracks for women’s health, obstetrics, and neonatal nursing. $1500 Regional Approval
