Preventing Preterm Birth Conference 2008

Medical professionals, government officials, legislators, business leaders, educators, social service providers and families gathered to develop a  Missouri Model action plan to prevent pretrm birth. Premature birth is an epidemic in Missouri and across the nation.  Conferees pushed for an expanded effort to fight prematurity, incuding:

--   Physician and hospital commitment to excellence in accord with ACOG Guidelines

--   Improved data collection for the state and hospitals

--   Working with the Governor-elect and Legislature to fund additional smoking cessation efforts

--   Formation of a statewide Prematurity Task Force

The keynote speaker was Dr. Paul Meis, professor emeritus at Wake Forest University.  He reported on the trials of 17P as a teatment to reduce the risk of preterm birth for women who previously had given bith early.

The conference, Prevnting Preventable Preterm Birth, was presented by Ther-Rx.  Adddtional sponsors were Centene Corporation, Matria Healthcare, Molina Healthcare, SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, St. Louis Children's Hospital, and Washington University School of Medicine.
