2008 Advocacy Issues: * Smoking Cessation Programs—In Missouri 32 infants died in 2003 due to maternal smoking in pregnancy. Keep $11.6 Million in the budget to help Missourians quit smoking, especially programs targeting pregnant women. * Newborn Screening—Missouri now tests for 28 of the recommended 29 newborn screening tests. * Access to Health Care for Women of Childbearing Age, Infants, and Children—In Missouri 127,000 children are uninsured. Monitor MO HealthNet and Insure Missouri to include pregnant women and smoking cessation.
