Circle K Stores in 14 states are selling paper pumpkins Oct. 12 to Nov. 2, 2012 (link for locations) to support March of Dimes research and community programs to help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies to have a healthy start in life. The Circle K Pick-a-Pumpkin Campaign has been a successful partnership with the March of Dimes for the last 17 years, raising nearly $5 million.
“Participating in the Circle K Pick-a-Pumpkin Campaign makes a statement to that you care about local families and the health of all babies, " says Tim Arndt, March of Dimes. “Just remember that you, your family, your friends, and even your parents were once babies. To take part, all you have to do is make a donation by purchasing a paper pumpkin at your local Circle K store.”
The most urgent infant health problem in the United States today is premature birth. It affects more than half a million babies each year, with the number growing every day. In 2011, because of support from our partners like Circle K, new nationwide statistics show a 3 percent decline in the preterm birth rate, according to a report released by the National Center for Health Statistics. But there is still much work to be done.
Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have disabilities. The March of Dimes is committed to continue reducing this toll by funding research to find the answers to premature birth and providing comfort and information to families who are affected.
