    St. Louis March for Babies

    We Will March On…

    St. Louis, Missouri, April 27, 2013 —

The St. Louis March for Babies is Saturday, April 27 in Forest Park.  In light of the recent events in Boston, the program will include a moment of silence to show solidarity with those killed or injured at the marathon.  Locally, March of Dimes is working closely with local law enforcement to ensure public safety at our March for Babies event.  Despite the recent tragedy, we believe it is important for our nation to push forward toward a healthier future for our nation’s children.

Thousands of participants are expected to attend the family friendly event that features a 5K run and walk. (Registration begins at 7:00 a.m.; 5K Run at 7:30 a.m.; walk at 9:00 a.m.)  KTVI Fox 2’s Margie Ellisor will serve as emcee and Dan McLaughlin, from Fox Sports Midwest and Bill DeWitt, president of the St. Louis Cardinals and chair of the event, will also be in attendance.

Unique to this year’s walk is a special celebration of “75th Anniversary Ambassador Families.”  March of Dimes named 75 families statewide to serve as ambassadors this year.  About 28 represent St. Louis.  The families will be wearing special buttons designating them as ambassadors and they will also lead the crowd in the special singing of “Happy Birthday” to March of Dimes.

March for Babies is the March of Dimes largest annual fundraising event. Last year, more than 10,000 people attended the St. Louis walk and raised approximately $1.1 million. The St. Louis event is one of the ten largest in the country.

In addition to the walk/run, there will be live music (Fanfare), Fredbird and Team Fredbird, a family area, crafts, face painting, multiple bounce houses, photo booths, and pet adoption area.

Funds raised in St. Louis support community education, research and advocacy to help all moms have full term babies and healthy pregnancies. March of Dimes is investing almost $2 million in the research scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and funding a “centering pregnancy” program of group prenatal care offered through Saint Louis University and Grace Hill Neighborhood Health Center. Additionally, the Missouri Chapter is helping the Midwest Health Initiative bring together physicians, hospitals, the business community, community organizations, health plans, and others to reduce the number of early elective deliveries before 39 weeks of pregnancy.

In St. Louis, March for Babies is supported by Farm Bureau Insurance, Express Scripts, Purina Pet Care, St. Louis Cardinals, Brown Shoe Company, Centene Corporation, Centric Group, Stifel Nicolas, Farmers, Cigna, Edward Jones, Fox 2, Furniture Brands International, Emerson, GCS Credit Union, Hunter Engineering, KPMG and Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
