| Montana, January 2, 2008---The March of Dimes, Big Sky Chapter has awarded grants in Billings, Helena and Miles City that will address unmet maternal and child health needs. "These grants address significant maternal and child health issues such as smoking cessation and family focused prenatal care that are concern in our community," said Debra Donovan, March of Dimes Director of Program Services.
These grants are one way the March of Dimes pursues its mission of preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
"In Helena, we found that we could help mothers and babies through the Florence Crittenton Home to fund their "Loving Your Baby From the Inside Out" program. Lori Simon, State Director, said, "We are grateful that our successful fundraising efforts, such as WalkAmerica, make it possible for us to support new efforts to help babies to be born healthy in Lewis and Clark County."
The Florence Crittenton Home will be using the $3,300 grant money to buy educational resources and equipment that will help them deliver the "Centering Pregnancy" model in their community.
In Miles City we found that we could help mothers and babies through Holy Rosary Healthcare to fund their "Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics" program. Lori Simon, State Director , said "it will definitely benefit Custer County." Holy Rosary Healthccare will be using the $3,300 grant money to buy educational resources and equipment that will help them deliver the "ALSO" model in their community.
In Billings we help mothers and babies through Yellowstone City-County Health Department in helping to fund their "Centering Pregnancy" program. Yellowstone City-County Health Department will be using the $3,400 grant money to buy educational resources and equipment that will help them deliver the "Centering Pregnancy" model in our community. The Medical Residency Program has embraced this model and is the first residency program in the United States and world to be certified to present it to its participants.
The March of dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
