| The Nebraska Chapter is pleased to accounce the funding of four grants, totaling $21,200 to support programs promoting preconceptual health and the health of pregnant women and their babies. The funded programs are located in Crete, Grand Island, and Omaha.
Crete Area Medical Center's grant will help revise and implement the program called Miracles in Progress, OB Education. Their goal is to promote a healthy pregnancy and delivery, decreasing the number of birth defects and complications during pregnancy.
Saint Francis Medical Center, Grand Island will offer pregnancy classes for underserved future mothers, encouraging early and regular prenatal care, According to a needs assessment, most pregnant women in Hall County do not get prenatal care during their first trimester.
Essential Pregnancy Services, Omaha, provides services including preconceptual education for women through a program called Healthy Moms/Healthy Babies. They will focus on the value of good nutrition and will provide an accompanying cooking program.
Creighton University, School of Nursing, will continue services to promote healthy pregnancies and outcomes through The Positive Pregnancy Project. High-risk pregnant women will receive educational materials about nutrition, breastfeeding benefits, alleviation of stress in pregnancy, signs of premature labor and preventive measures.
