Why support March of Dimes?

March of Dimes is the only non-profit organization that completed its initial mission with finding the cure for polio in 1954. Even so, there was work to be done in finding a solution to premature births.

During an average week in Nevada, 640 babies are born. Ninety-four are born too soon. Fifty-four are born with low birth weight and have to fight for their lives. Four babies lose that fight before their first birthday.
Our mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births and infant mortality. We carry out this mission through programs of research, community service, education and advocacy.
Our research means hope for babies born prematurely; some so small they fit into the palm of your hand. We fight for health care so children can see a doctor when they need to get their shots. Our educational programs tell women what they can do to help their babies be born healthy and reduce the risk of preterm labor. With your help, we will reach the day when all babies are born healthy.

March of Dimes is the champion for all babies.

There are myriad opportunities to volunteer with March of Dimes -- office skills, organization skills, advocacy skills and fundraising skills. If you want to make a difference in lives that often are unsung, babies, we have a place for you.

March of Dimes has several fundraising events each year.

March for Babies has been the mainstay event for March of Dimes for decades. In 2008, the Nevada Chapter will have three marches. Las Vegas, 9 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at UNLV; Reno/Sparks, 9 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the Sparks Marina; Carson City, 9 a.m. Saturday, May 3 at the Capital Grounds.

Our Jail & Bail events "arrest" leading citizens who then solicit donations for their "bail". There will be 14 Jail & Bails around Nevada this year.

In the fall, March of Dimes presents Signature Chefs events. We invite many of the top chefs in the state to present their "signature" dishes to an appreciative audience. There also are silent and live auctions at each of the two chef events held each year, one in Las Vegas and one in Reno.

If motorcycles get you going, March of Dimes Nevada Chapter held its inaugural Bikers for Babies ride in 2007 and promises to be bigger and better in 2008.

Every year, March of Dimes Nevada Chapter honors nurses in souther Nevada for the often unappreciated work they do. Nurses touch everyone's lives and we take the time to let them know they are appreciated.

Each of our events means raising money for March of Dimes education, research and advocacy.

Ambassador children and their families bring a face to the March of Dimes mission. Ambassdor families tell the story of how their lives have been touched by March of Dimes. It allows others to see the connection between their fund-raising efforts, the well being of the child standing in front of them and the health of thousands of other children across the country.

Donating is easy online, by phone or mail / fax.
