March of Dimes / CHaD Collaboration in the ICN
12-Jun-09 |
The collaboration between the March of Dimes and CHaD, the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, has been in place since the fall of 2008 in the form of a part-time position created to provide support to families experiencing the stresses of having a hospitalized infant(s) in the Intensive Care Nursery. Joanna Celenza fills the role of March of Dimes/CHaD ICN Family Support Specialist and is an on-site resource for families and staff alike. She herself had the experience of having twins in the Intensive Care Nursery at CHaD almost 10 years ago and knows first-hand that the experience can by a trying time for families. The collaboration between CHaD and the March of Dimes provides for information sharing and supportive classes, known as Parent Hours, in which families are able to learn something about having a child in the Unit, such as Infection Control or Kangaroo Care. These classes also include fun, creative activities where families can meet other families and create special mementos of their journey. Programmatic funding through this collaboration also provides opportunities for improvement and enhancement of services available to families in the Intensive Care Nursery.
