| The signature green and white colors of Hess gasoline stations receive a touch of pink and blue this March. Hess locations across New Hampshire are selling pink and blue paper ribbons for $1 each in support of March of Dimes WalkAmerica. In addition to raising funds for the March of Dimes, Hess customers who see the pink and blue ribbons displayed throughout the store are reminded that premature birth is a growing crisis that now affects half a million babies born in the U.S. every year.
The number of babies born prematurely each year has increased by 30% since 1983. Some of those babies die; others face lifelong disability. Almost half of premature births happen for no known cause. A woman may do everything right, have no known risk factors, and still give birth prematurely. Hess Corporation has joined the fight against premature birth by selling paper ribbons throughout the month of March at their gasoline stations across New Hampshire. All proceeds support the March of Dimes mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
The money raised through the Hess paper ribbon sales and from events like March of Dimes WalkAmerica supports research and programs to find out how to prevent premature births and how to help families who experience it. Here in New Hampshire, WalkAmerica is taking place in ten communities across the state. For a complete listing of WalkAmerica locations and to register to walk, visit walkamerica.org.
