| One of the most important federal laws the March of Dimes has helped to pass was the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP) several years ago. In New Jersey, this program is called NJ FamilyCare, which provides free or low-cost health insurance to children, pregnant women, and some parents. The funding authorization for this critical program needs to be renewed this year. We need your help to ensure that all of NJ’s Congressmen vote in favor of this renewal. Senators Lautenberg and Menendez and Congressman Pallone have already confirmed their support.
Write your Congressman (visit http://house.gov/ for contact information) to ask him to support the reauthorization and funding of S-CHIP to help states improve access to health insurance for children. Also urge your Congressman to give states the resources they need to enroll all eligible children; allow states to cover pregnant women in SCHIP; let families with a special needs child supplement private health insurance with SCHIP; and report on the quality of care provided through SCHIP.
