Gateway Northwest Maternal and Child Health Network - $48,904 Through OB Grand Rounds at NJ’s Regional Perinatal Centers, obstetricians will increase their awareness of the need for better patient education about the signs and symptoms of preterm labor and what to do when it occurs. They will also be given a “Preterm Birth Prevention Patient Education Toolkit”
UMDNJ/ OB - $27,519 Funding from the March of Dimes will support the implementation of a Centering Pregnancy model of group prenatal care which will enable the UH-OB-GYN Clinic to provide assessment, education and support for patients in a group setting.
NNJMCHC = $50,000 The project will develop and distribute a DVD to3500 African American women and their health providers (50 sites) focused on risk reduction strategies for the prevention of preterm birth and Blank Infant mortality. The program will measure resultant changes in knowledge and behavior intent among pregnant women.

Multi-Year Project Continuations
Our Lady of Lourdes - $44,474 “Osborn Family Health Center Bi-Lingual Prenatal Education Program” is continuing year three of its bilingual prenatal education program, which is supported by the use of incentives to ensure program compliance. Emphasis is placed on the prevention of illness and encouraging adequate prenatal care in an effort to correct a number of pre- and post-delivery health problems, including low birth weight, pregnancy complications, poor growth and development, and birth defects.
UMDNJ - $52,000 The UH/OB/GYN Preterm/ Prenatal Health Project’s goal is to enhance educational and support services for pregnant women, focusing on reducing disparities in preterm birth. A large component of the program is health literacy. The program will serve 800 black and Hispanic women receiving care at University Hospital in Newark. This program is continuing its second year.
Central New Jersey Maternal Child Health Consortium – $65,000 The Central New Jersey Maternal Child Health Consortium is implementing a prenatal education program targeting Hispanic and African American women in the City of Perth Amboy, Year 1 and in Carteret, Plainfield, South Plainfield, Franklin Township, and Somerset County. In Years 2 & 3 of the project they will use March of Dimes Health Education curriculums Comenzando Bien and Body & Soul. The purpose of the grant is to improve preterm birth rates. This grant is in its second year.
