Franklin Awards Presented to Outstanding Central Jersey Volunteers
04-Dec-03
DECEMBER 4, 2003, JAMESBURG, NJ - recently, the March of Dimes Central Jersey Division held its annual Franklin Awards for 2003 at the  Holiday Inn, Jamesburg. The Franklin Awards takes its name from Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was both the founder and the first volunteer of the March of Dimes. His zeal, courage and dedication paved the way for thousands of volunteers to advance the cause of saving babies. It is the March of Dimes’ privilege to honor thirteen of the Central Jersey area volunteers for their tireless work and efforts on behalf of the March of Dimes.

The “Outstanding Volunteer Leadership Award” recipient:

  • Jean Buerle-Farley of Chester New Jersey

The “Outstanding Youth Volunteer Leadership Award” recipient:

  • Rohit Bansal of South Plainfield

Franklin Award Recipients for 2003:

  • B98.5 Radio Milennium radio group, LLC in Manahawkin
  • Susan Collin – (Monmouth County) – Sovereign Bank
  • Igor Jarowoi – (Middlesex County)
  • Mary Knapp – (Mercer County) – New Jersey Department of Health

It has been proven time and again that the success of the March of Dimes is attributed directly to the dedication of its volunteers. Without people like these Franklin Award recipients, and all of our great volunteers, the cure for polio would never have been discovered and the serious problem of prematurity will never be solved.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies and in 2003 launched a five-year campaign to address the increasing rate of premature birth.
