World-renowned photographer Anne Geddes is lending her talent to support the March of Dimes Prematurity Campaign and World Prematurity Day 2014 by taking an exclusive image this week that will be released specifically for the campaign in November.
Ms. Geddes is a longtime advocate for children and babies, and says the issue of preterm birth is close to her heart. One of her earliest and most iconic images is “Jack Holding Maneesha,” a photograph of a baby born prematurely at 28 weeks. This year, Maneesha celebrates her 21st birthday.
“I feel privileged to be able to use my photography to help such an important campaign,” says Ms. Geddes. “With the creation of a new image, I hope to demonstrate the inner strength, the as-yet-unseen potential of such a tiny life, and also to draw attention to potential solutions in the area of premature births.”

World Prematurity Day takes place each year on November 17. The March of Dimes and its global partners mark the day with activities to focus attention on the fact that prematurity affects 15 million babies worldwide and is responsible for the deaths of more than one million babies before their first birthday.
