WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., MARCH 17, 2011 – The March of Dimes has contributed to Save the Children to help mothers and children in Japan imperiled by the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

“The March of Dimes is deeply concerned about pregnant women, new mothers, babies, and children in Japan affected by these frightening and dangerous events,” said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president of the March of Dimes. “We know that many families with small children have been displaced from their homes and are in urgent need of basic supplies and care. Save the Children has programs in place to help and we want to help expand their effort.”

The March of Dimes special gift of $100,000 will help Japanese babies and children who need emergency assistance, protection from harm, and a sense of normalcy and community during this disruption in their lives.

Through its Global Programs and in partnership with governmental and non-governmental organizations and funding agencies worldwide, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of mothers and babies in over 30 lower-income countries.

The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
