Non-Profit Has a Long History of Raising Standards for Working Parents
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., SEPT. 15, 2011 – March of Dimes efforts to help families balance work and family life have been recognized by the Working Mother 100 Best Companies list for the third consecutive year.
“We are honored once again to be recognized for our achievements supporting mothers, families, and healthy pregnancies,” said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president of March of Dimes. “We have expanded our policies and benefits this past year to help working families obtain a better and healthier life balance and we will continue to do so for years to come.”
The March of Dimes record of female managers and it’s strong adoption, paternity, and maternity leave benefits and policies helped ensure it’s inclusion on the 2011 Best Companies list.
This past year, the March of Dimes expanded its employee benefits. It added monthly conference calls on work life benefits and policies, as well as quarterly calls about elder care and retirement planning issues. It increased paid time off from one to two weeks for adoption and foster care placement of a child. Also, new employees who need maternity leave receive a minimum of six weeks time off at full pay after six months of employment, instead of having to wait a full year.
