Community Awards Listing:

New York Division

College of Mount Saint Vincent
:  To provide educational experiences for college women on prevention, screening and treatment of STDs and their effect on reproductive health.

Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc.:  To provide information and referrals for testing and treatment to Latin American immigrant women in NYC. The goal of the distribution of such information is to improve the health status of the women and prevent birth defects and mother-to-child transmission of STDs.
Covenant House To provide information and referrals to 2080 homeless or at-risk young women about the harmful health impact of tobacco, alcohol and other drug use.

Medical and Health Research Association of NYC Inc., MIC-Women’s Health Services at Astoria:  To provide education and information to Pakistani and Chinese immigrant men and women about the value of pre-pregnancy and early prenatal care; to provide access to high quality and early prenatal care to high risk women in these 2 groups through a health care team that is culturally attuned to them and provide them with the needed case management.

Northern Queens Health Coalition:  A project with a primary focus on increasing through education and public awareness, participation in state or local maternal and infant health programs for pre-pregnancy and prenatal care.

The Cystic Fibrosis Center, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Manhattan:  To provide educational materials to parents and pediatricians of newborns who screen positive for cystic fibrosis through the New York State Newborn Screening Program.

United Bronx Parents, Inc.:  The Women's Health Project will provide STD prevention/educational interventions to women enrolled in drug treatment with their children at UBP. The project will extend interventions to women receiving services in other programs in the South Bronx.


Northern Metro Division

Hudson River Healthcare:  To provide outreach worker training and support for bilingual community health workers in order to improve the use of prenatal care among high risk women in Poughkeepsie, NY

Nu Psi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.:  To provide access to and quality of health care for women and children is main focus. We also increase the availability of prevention services.

Putnam County Health Department:  To provide and continue the March of Dimes educational programs, "Comenzando Bien" and "Pregnancy Workshop" to pregnant women in Putnam County, with special emphasis on low-income and Medicaid-eligible women and women of Hispanic Origin.

Sullivan County Division of Health & Family Services, Sullivan County Public Health Nursing Home Health Agency:  To provide a bilingual/bicultural Spanish community outreach worker out in the field to facilitate interaction of Hispanic families and the County’s family health delivery systems.


Long Island Division

Planned Parenthood, Hudson Peconic, Inc.:  To provide sexually transmitted infection education, testing and treatment for at-risk women in Suffolk County. Services will be provided through Smart Wheels, PPHP’s mobile center.

The Mikedem Foundation:  To provide enhanced knowledge and use of genetic services, preconception folic acid, and other risk awareness among women of childbearing age in the Jewish community.

Cornell Cooperative Extension Nassau Co.:  To provide information on the importance of folic acid for women of childbearing age and promote their intake of multi-vitamins and folate-rich foods.
