Sanofi Pasteur’s guiding principle is simple: They envision a world in which no one suffers or dies from a vaccine-preventable disease. They work to achieve this vision through cooperation, innovation, and education. In addition to the company’s March for Babies sponsorship, the partnership between the March of Dimes and Sanofi Pasteur helps to inform the public about the burden of disease and the true value of vaccines through two unique campaigns: Sounds of Pertussis® and Word of Mom.

The Sounds of Pertussis Campaign is a national, award-winning, education campaign from March of Dimes and Sanofi Pasteur to help raise awareness about the potential dangers of pertussis, also known as whooping cough, and the importance of adult tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination. Started in 2009, the campaign continues to help educate parents, caregivers, and others in close contact with infants about the importance of getting vaccinated with an adult Tdap vaccine to help protect themselves and to help stop the spread of the disease to infants.

Pertussis is a highly contagious and often serious disease, especially in young children.1,2 In adolescents and adults, it usually presents as a severe cough that may last for weeks and even months.1, 2 The best way to help prevent pertussis is timely vaccination with the recommended pertussis vaccines.3

The Word of Mom Campaign was started in 2013 to honor the March of Dimes 75th anniversary. This campaign aims to empower moms to help make the best health decisions for their families, including ensuring that they receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable diseases. Word of Mom promotes family health by providing educational resources, tools, and advice from moms across the generations. These resources, which can be found on Vaccines.com/WordofMom, include an infographic illustrating adult vaccination recommendations, an educational public service announcement (PSA), families’ personal stories as well as national survey results about moms’ support of and need for more education about vaccinations.
