Durham, N.C. native, Ezekiel “Zeek” Taylor, had the chance of a lifetime when he met President George W. Bush at the White House on Monday, July 30, 2007. Zeek is the 2007 National Ambassador for the March of Dimes. This marks the highlight of the year-long tour that Zeek and his parents are taking across the United States speaking on behalf of the March of Dimes and its efforts to give every baby a healthy start in life. Also joining the President and Zeek in the Oval Office were Kenneth A. May, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes; Zeek's parents, Betty and Corey Taylor; and his brother, Emanuel.
As the National Ambassador, Zeek and his family continue to share their story, raising awareness of the seriousness of premature birth across the nation. Every year, more than half a million babies are born prematurely in the U.S. — one in eight babies born too soon, a national health crisis that must be stopped. Betty explains, “Due to the increasing rate of premature birth among African-American women, we feel an urgency to work with the March of Dimes to raise awareness and to support research that would further impact the lives of babies. We are very passionate about helping all families.”
