The 2005 Great Chefs of the Triangle, held on August 14th at the beautiful Brier Creek Country Club was an outstanding success! Almost 300 guests, many in black tie, enjoyed an elegant evening of fabulous food, a raffle, "Head and Tails", and live and silent auctions. This year's event, chaired by Karen Trachtman, raised $75,000 for the March of Dimes mission -- to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
The live auction, with auctioneer Jimmy Thomas in charge, saw spirited bidding on 21 items, such as a New York City Trip. High bidder, Ms. Suzanne McCain, will enjoy three days and two nights in a one bedroom suite at the Wellington Hotel, located in the the heart of the theatre district is just steps from Central Park, City Center and Times Square. The package also included two ticket vouchers for airfare on AirTran Airways.
Another live auction package that received frenzied bidding was the "Twenty Tees and Martinis" -- Lunch and a round of golf (including greens fees and carts) for twenty at the Brier Creek Country Club and a Steak and Martini party for twenty in the private Casablanca Room at Bogart's American Grill. The high bidder, Eastern Carolina Division Board Chair Kirk Warner, is looking forward to a great day with nineteen of his closest friends!
The silent auction tables, with 60 fabulous packages, raised over $10,600. And a very special part of the live auction -- Fund the Mission -- where guests pledge donations to fund the March of Dimes mission -- raised a spectacular $10,400.
The raffle item donor, Bailey's Fine Jewelry, gave each guest a chance to win a $1,000 Bailey's Gift Certificate. Each guest can bring their card to Bailey's to see if they had won; even if they hadn't won the $1,000 gift certificate, their card entitled them to $25.00 off any purchae of $250 or more (with some exclusions.)
As they left, guests were given a "Save the Date" magnet for next year's Great Chefs of the Triangle - A March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction -- scheduled for August 13, 2006 -- to ensure they don't miss next year's event! |
