March of Dimes North Carolina Chili Championship
Clemmons, NC

The North Carolina March of Dimes Chili Championship, now in its 26th year, began as a small festival in the streets of downtown Winston-Salem and has blossomed into the largest chili event in North Carolina. Attracting more than 10,000 people from across the Tar Heel State, the day-long event is full of great family fun, including live music, the Beth Tartan Cake Bake, the Kids Korral games and entertainment area, and arts & crafts for sale.

More than 100 chili cooks from all over the nation gather in Piedmont Triad to participate, providing samples of their top secret recipes for the attendees.

Because the event is sanctioned by the Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI), points earned at this event can help a cook achieve a chili cook’s ultimate goal – an invitation to participate in the International Chili Cook-off in Terlingua, Texas!  Chili Cooks compete in multiple categories:
• Traditional Texas-style
• Creative Free-style
• Showmanship
• Vegetarian

Trophies are awarded to the first three places in each category.  Hotly contested is the “people’s choice” winner – the J D Marler Award – given to the cook the crowd crowns the winner – voting with donations to the March of Dimes.

Of course, at day’s end, the real winners are the babies that will be given a chance for a healthy birth thanks to the money raised!
