5K Run for Healthier Babies Presented by Tekelec

Join us at the Annual 5K Run for Healthier Babies on September 6, 2008! The 5K Run for Healthier Babies will be hosted by NBC 17’s Bill Rey and will be held at Presenting Sponsor Tekelec’s World Headquarters in Perimeter Park, Morrisville.
Now in its sixth year, this event had a record field of 255 runners and walkers signed up for the race in 2007; this year, it is the first race of nine in the popular Triangle race series, the Second Empire Grand Prix (for more on the Series, visit: http://www.second-empire.com/race/grandprix/) and runner registration is expected to more than double!
The 5K is a certified run (USATF course # NC08036PH); the course is paved asphalt with gentle hills All 5K entrants are eligible for the drawing of a free Lenovo Notebook generously provided by our Gold Sponsor, Lenovo, but one must be present to win.
A 1 Mile Fun Run & Walk is also offered! Runners/walkers of all ages are invited to participate in the Fun Run and Walk. All Mile entrants will be timed using a chip system, and the first 25 finishers win a prize. All participants must be registered to join us in the Fun Run and Walk.
There also will be team competition with one male and one female category of teams for businesses and organizations (schools, military units, civic groups, etc., other than running clubs.) Team members must be employees or members of established businesses and organizations. Teams will consist of 3 to 5 runners with the first 3 runners scoring. Plaques will be mailed to the top 3 male and female teams. Winners will be determined by the sum of the finishing times.
Prizes: In the 5K, cash awards of $125, $75, and $50 will be presented to the first three males and first three females overall, respectively. There also is a $50 bonus to anyone setting a new course record.
Additionally the first three finishers (both sexes) in each of the following age groups will receive awards: 12-under, 13-15, 15-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-over.
In the mile, awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each of the following age groups: 7-under, 8-10, and 11-13.
