Craig Davis and Craig Davis Properties Receive March of Dimes Inaugural Award
13-Nov-07
Celebrating Contributions to the Triangle Real Estate Award

Craig Davis and Craig Davis Properties were honored by the March of Dimes on November 13, 2007 for its Inaugural Celebrating Contributions to the Triangle award. The Real Estate Award was established in 1998 by the South Carolina Chapter of the March of Dimes to honor a member of the commercial real estate community who has demonstrated a long history of service. Recipients are chosen for their outstanding leadership and vision in the community. This is the first year the North Carolina Chapter of the March of Dimes has honored a recipient in the Triangle.

Friends, supporters and well wishers gathered at Embassy Suites in Cary for a ceremonial breakfast chaired by Smedes York, Chairman of York Properties. Bruce Ballentine of Ballentine Associates reflected on his 17 year relationship with Craig citing Craig’s passion and loyalty for building good relationships and teamwork goes back to the days that Craig played basketball for North Carolina State University.

Charlie Fulton, of Manning Fulton remembered Craig as an eager learner whose energy and enthusiasm led to the realization of a need to fill space in the warehouse industry. That need resulted in Craig’s and the firm’s “need-based” philosophy in the commercial real estate market. Said Fulton, “the fact that Craig counted, he has counted yesterday, today and tomorrow.”

Marie Stapleton, of Bank of America noted that her 20 year relationship with Craig in the commercial real estate banking industry was one of generosity of spirit. “You’re not just his banker or his attorney, you are part of his team,” said Stapleton.

Jim Lepley, Vice President of Craig Davis Properties shared a story of first meeting Craig 20 years ago when he lost a deal to him. He realized and admired that Craig was a leader who knew how to put together a team.

Upon accepting the award Craig praised mentors from his past who gave him the insight and goals he cherished today; Norm Sloan of NCSU basketball fame, “who made me a man” and Charles Fulton of Manning Fulton. “Charlie Fulton was my mentor and second father. He invited me to his study every morning and taught me everything I know and molded a lifelong, loyal relationship. He taught me to never give up, never hurt anybody and to be always be right in the moment,” stated Davis. Other honored guests recognized by Craig were Dick Daugherty, retired IBM executive, Joanne Sloan, wife of former basketball coach Norm Sloan, Phil Spence and Mark Moeller of the NCSU 1974 National Championship basketball team and his longtime partner, Dick Moehring, Chief Executive Officer of Craig Davis Properties along with his team of employees at Craig Davis Properties. In conclusion, Davis challenged university and corporate leaders to set goals and confront growth issues to go forth in the world.

Craig Davis is the founder and Chairman of Craig Davis Properties, the largest private developer in the Triangle region. Since 1988, Craig Davis Properties has been responsible for developing over 6.3 million square feet of commercial property ranging from suburban office parks to retail and industrial complexes to downtown high rises.
