So you’ve been taking a multivitamin daily and you want to know what else you can do. Or maybe you’ve had a pregnancy affected by a neural tube defect and you want to help other women. Now you can join our grassroots effort to educate women in North Carolina by becoming a community ambassador or an office champion.
Community ambassadors are trained community members who provide presentations in English or Spanish to their local communities about folic acid. Presentations include a short video, a group activity, and the distribution of brochures and reminder items. They can be held anywhere, such as local civic groups, churches, youth groups, parenting classes, house parties and work sites.
If you are a health care provider, you can get your practice to become an office champion. The program provides an in-office educational session and the appointment of a folic acid “champion” to share the folic acid message in the health care provider’s office. Office Champions encourage health care providers to talk to their patients about folic acid, display posters, and distribute educational brochures and reminder items.
