Triad March of Dimes Announces 2013 Signature Chefs Auction Ambassador Family
Greensboro, North Carolina, August 12, 2013
The Greater Triad Division of the March of Dimes is proud to announce the Greensboro Signature Chefs Auction will take place, Thursday, September 26. As part of this special event, Michael and Jennifer Creef, along with their daughters, Cora and Hazel have been named the 2013 Ambassador family.
Arriving nearly 12 weeks early, twins Cora and Hazel were delivered through an emergency Caesarian section surgery, with Cora weighing 2 pounds, 3 ounces and Hazel at 1 pound, 15 ounces. They were quickly ushered to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Women’s Hospital and would remain there for more than three months.
Michael remembers, “One day would seem like a major triumph, only to then have a setback to knock us down the next. Throughout it all, the decades of research and experience that the March of Dimes provided in making stronger, healthier babies were there. Our daughters received surfactant therapy that allowed their premature lungs to achieve elasticity for proper breathing, a therapy funded and researched by the March of Dimes. Without it, I fear that we may have lost our daughters, but instead we look forward to celebrating their fourth birthday this December.”
“Millions of other babies, just like our miracles, will combat challenges untold in their own fight for life. You can provide them the assistance they need with your donation and support for the March of Dimes.” says Jennifer.
Every year, more than half a million babies are born prematurely, and more than 120,000 babies are born with serious birth defects. With the support of millions of people and thousands of companies, the March of Dimes has been able to reduce the rate of premature birth. However, there are still too many babies born too soon or sick.
The Ambassador family will be recognized at the upcoming event to be held on September 26, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Empire Room, 203 S. Elm Street, in downtown Greensboro. Now in its 22nd year, the Signature Chefs Auction features renowned chefs from area restaurants who serve their signature dishes and donate premiere dining packages available for bid during a live auction. Community and nonprofit leaders, business executives, medical professionals and supporters of March of Dimes attend this highly anticipated annual fundraiser.

In 2013, the March of Dimes celebrates its 75th Anniversary and its ongoing work to help babies get a healthy start in life. Early research led to the Salk and Sabin polio vaccines that all babies still receive. Other breakthroughs include new treatments for premature infants and children with birth defects. About 4 million babies are born each year in the United States, and all have benefited from March of Dimes lifesaving research and education.
