PART 1: GENERAL HELP

Site Organization
The main content of the site is organized into three sections:
| | |
About Nursing Education
| | | In this section, you can learn more about all our educational opportunities for perinatal nurses, including earning CE credit for our print and online modules. |
| | |
Online Modules | |
| | |
Visit this section to learn about our online modules which include readings, activities, case studies, video clips and/or animations, still photography and tests. Upon completion of a module, users are able to take a test to earn CE credit. The entire experience occurs online. |
| | |
Modules in Print | |
| | | Visit this section to learn about our modules available in print. Users can order a print module, read it, and complete a test to obtain CE credit. Or users can earn CE credit by participating in a group study. |
Each section provides a What's Inside overview, which highlights important features of that section.
For Online Modules, a preview of a module is available.
Please refer to the Features Help section for more information.

Navigation
The Home Page is the main entry into the site. You can access the three sections of the site, find out about CE credit or access any of the other site features. You can return to the Home Page from any other part of the site by clicking the Nursing Education Home link at the top of the left column.
| The Home Page |
Top Navigation Bar
The top navigation bar has three main sections: About Nursing Education, Online Modules, and Modules in Print. See Site Organization for more information.
Side Navigation Column
On all pages, except the home page, there is a left column for navigation. Here you will always find a link to the Home Page and to many of the site features. In addition, when you are in a module the main topics for that module will be listed. As you get further into the module content, the navigation expands to give you a more detailed list of the screens contained within that section. As you go through the material, you can either click on links when they appear within the main content area or use the left navigation to select the next screen or the section you want to go to. The side navigation bar always highlights which module, section and page you are on so that you can quickly reference your location within the site.

PART 2: REGISTRATION/ACCESSING ONLINE MODULES
If you would like to access the online continuing education modules, you will need to register by setting up your personal account. Setting up your personal account takes only a few minutes. Once you have completed the one-time registration process, you will be able to gain access to an online module either:
By purchasing single-use access for individual study or multi-user access for group study (Step 2) or |
By entering a token code provided to you by a group facilitator (Step 3) |
STEP 1: Setting Up Your Account
At the top of the left column on the Perinatal Nursing Education Home Page, select Create An Account. We ask that you create your own user name and password for confidentiality. Fill in the information requested on the registration form. User names cannot include spaces. Once you have completed the form, click the I Accept button.

Note: Fields denoted with an * are required fields.

Editing your account
You may edit your account at any time by clicking on the My Account tab at the top right of the screen, making any necessary changes and then resubmitting your information.

Logging in
Each time you return to the Perinatal Nursing Education site, if you want to access an online module, you will need to log in by entering your user name and password in the sign-in box at the top of the left column on the Home Page. Once you have logged in, the last page you visited will be displayed in the welcome box. You can click on this link to return to the place you left off or navigate to a new section by using the main site navigation. The names of your modules appear in the left navigation.

Forgot your password?
If you forget your password, just click on the link "Have you forgot your password?" A dialogue box will appear where you can enter your e-mail address. Type in the e-mail address you used when you created your account, then click Submit. We'll send the user name and password on file for your e-mail address.

Logging out
At the end of each session, log out of the site by clicking on the Log Out button in the upper right corner of the screen. Note: After one hour of inactivity, you will automatically be logged out and will have to sign back in to continue using the site. |

STEP 2: Purchasing a Module
Each online module can be purchased for a fee of $30 per user. This fee gives each user access to the module for six months and two opportunities to pass the CE Test to obtain continuing education credit. (See CE Credit for more information.)

Independent study/Individual users
If you are an individual interested in purchasing access to an online module for yourself, go to the Online Modules section of the site. Click on Take a Module in the left navigation bar. Then click on the title of the module you wish to purchase. On the Purchase Module screen, select either Option 1: Independent Study if you are purchasing access just for yourself, or Option 2: Group Study if you are purchasing access for yourself and other members of your group.
When you purchase online modules for yourself, you will be asked to enter your credit card information. When the transaction is complete, you will begin the module. To view the module in the future, when you log in to our site, the names of purchased modules will appear in the left navigation. You will have access to each module for six months from the date of purchase.
If you are having trouble purchasing a module, please call 914-997-4455 or e-mail profedu@marchofdimes.com.
Purchasing access to online modules for yourself and others
If you are a nurse facilitator, you can purchase access for multiple users in your group, including yourself. As the facilitator, you will be assigned a token code for each user for whom you have purchased access. You must give each user in your group a token code to gain access to the module. To purchase tokens, you can select Purchase for Group on the left navigation of the Home Page. There is also a Purchase for Group link available on the opening page of the module the first time you go to that page. Once you have completed the purchase process, log in to the nursing education site. In the left navigation panel, click Token Report under the Group Purchases heading. There you will see a list of token codes assigned to you. You will need to give each person in your group a token code. Each group member will then need to register on the site (if they have not previously registered) and will need to enter the token code you have supplied to access the module (see Step 3 below for further information about accessing a module for the first time). Users will have access to the module for six months from the date the token code is used.
If you are having trouble purchasing access for yourself and others, please call 914-997-4455 or e-mail profedu@marchofdimes.com. |

STEP 3: Accessing a Module
Initial access for independent study/Individual users
Once you successfully purchased a module, you are taken to the first screen of the module.
Initial access for multiple users in group studies (including the purchaser)
Each user needs a token code (including the purchaser) given to him or her by the person who purchased the module. Token codes may be used only once.
To access a module for the first time, you will first need to log into the system. Then go to Online Modules/Take a Module and click on the module title in the left navigation. A screen appears that asks for the token code. Once you enter your code, you have access to the module for six months. This is the only time you will need to enter the code.
Logging in for returning registrants
When you return to the Perinatal Nursing Education site and want to access an online module, you will need to log in by entering your user name and password in the sign-in box at the top of the left column on the Home Page. If you used a token code provided by someone who purchased the module for you, you will not need to reuse the code.
Once you have logged in, the last page you visited will be displayed in the welcome box. You can click on this link to return to the place you left off or navigate to a new section by using the main site navigation.
The names of the modules that you have purchased or that have been purchased for you by someone else appear in the left navigation bar. |
PART 3: USING PERINATAL NURSING EDUCATION FEATURES
Obtaining CE Credit for Print Modules, Independent Study
If you have ordered a print module from the March of Dimes, take the module Independent Study Test using one of the following options:
- Complete the original Independent Study Application from the module. Send the completed application to the March of Dimes at the address below. No additional fee is required.
- Complete a photocopy of the Independent Study Application from the module. Send the completed application with a $15 check made payable to the March of Dimes to the address below.
- Complete a downloaded Independent Study Application from the module. Send the completed application with a $15 check made payable to the March of Dimes to the address below.
- Take the test online. Online tests require a $15 fee payable by credit card.
For tests sent by mail, the March of Dimes notifies participants of test results within eight weeks of receiving the test. Participants with scores of 70 percent or higher receive CE certificates via mail; participants with scores less than 70 percent receive a second attempt to pass the test.
For online tests, participants have two tries to pass the test. Once they pass with a score of 70 percent or higher, they go to the evaluation screen and then to the screen that allows them to print out their CE certificate.

Obtaining CE Credit for Online Modules
Continuing education (CE) credits are offered for completion of each online module.
After reviewing a module, each user will have two opportunities to pass the CE test. You must receive 70% or higher to pass. If you do not pass the test after two tries, you will no longer have access to the CE test, though you will have access to the module for six months either from the date of purchase or from the date you entered a token code. After two unsuccessful tries, the only way to regain access to the CE Test is to repurchase access to the module.

Search
To search the Perinatal Nursing Education site, enter specific words or phrases into the search box at the upper left corner of every screen and then click Go. Put phrases in quotes.
For example, entering states of term newborn without quotation marks will find all pages that contain the four words states, of, term and newborn, in any order, anywhere on the page.
Entering the phrase in quotation marks "states of term newborn" will find only pages that contain the complete phrase.

Working with PDFs
Adobe Acrobat Reader Is Required
Online module content is displayed in PDF documents. PDF documents can be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have Acrobat Reader on your system, you'll need to download and install the reader before you can see the content in the PDF files.
Click here to download Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Depending on how your system is configured, your PDF files may open in your browser window or may open in a separate Adobe Acrobat Reader window.
Downloading, Saving and Printing PDFs
We have provided the module readings in two ways, as a complete module and as individual sections. The content covered is exactly the same.
| | |
For users with a higher speed connection (DSL, T1, cable) that is able to handle the larger file size, we recommend downloading the complete module. |
| | |
For users with slower speed connections (dial-up), we recommend downloading the smaller individual section files.
Whichever version you choose, you can:
| | |
Download/Save the file to your computer’s hard drive so that you can read the material at a later date without being connected to the Internet or
| | |
Read the file online while still connected to the Internet
If the computer is connected to a printer, most users find it easiest to print out the PDF files for reading.
Displaying a Full Page on the Screen in Adobe Acrobat Reader
Adobe Acrobat Reader allows you to zoom in and out of a PDF document. If you're having trouble seeing all the contents of a PDF page on the screen, try adjusting the zoom percentage. You can also switch to one of Reader's standard zoom settings by clicking on the zoom setting on the Reader menu bar.
To see more or less of a PDF page, adjust the zoom setting from the Adobe Acrobat Reader menu bar. |
PART 4: TROUBLESHOOTING

Configuring the Browser
Some browsers may need to be reconfigured to work properly with the Perinatal Nursing Education site. Most of the settings that might need to be changed are available from the Tools/Internet Options menu (IE for Windows), or the Preferences menu (IE for Macintosh). Netscape and other browsers use similar commands for changing browser settings. For example, turning Javascript on or off, allowing pop-up windows, and turning scripting on and off are all controlled from the Internet Options windows. See your browser Help file for more details.

Printing Background Graphics
If you are trying to print pages from the Perinatal Nursing Education site and some of the graphics are not showing up, you may need to reconfigure your browser. Check the setting under Tools/Internet Options/Advanced. Scroll down to the Printing options and choose Print Background Colors and Images.

Playing Audio
This icon indicates an audio component. Make sure your speakers are turned on and the volume is turned up in order to hear the audio track. Audio is not required to master the content of online modules.

Playing Video and Flash Animations
In order to view these resources, you will need to have the Flash plug-in and/or a video player on your computer. Please see Technical Requirements for more information.
Once you have selected a video, you may play, pause, or stop it (buttons shown below, respectively), using the control panel underneath it.

Timing Out
The site is programmed to automatically log users out if they are logged in but have been inactive on the site for one hour. If you are in a section and then get called away for a significant period of time, when you return to your computer and select a new page, you may be asked to log back in. Simply re-enter your user name and password on the Home Page in the log-in box. When you have logged back in, your last visited page will be listed in the log-in box so you can return to where you left off.
